Power Rankings Week of 03/07/2016

This week we return to standard after our long voyage to some bigger formats and it is good to be back. As always we will be using the same format to determine the decks ranking being 6 points for each 1st place finish, 5 points for 2nd, 4 for top 4, 3 for top 8, 2 for top 16, and 1 for top 32. I then add all of those up and see which decks have been performing the best.

5- Mardu Green 18 points
This is the currently most popular version of the classic my cards are individually better than yours deck. Playing powerful cards like Siege Rhino, Abzan Charm, and Goblin Dark-Dwellers. This deck aims to out muscle your opponent on card quality.

4- Dark Jeskai 19 points
This is a good-stuff deck similar to out previous deck but relies on a much different strategy predicated mostly on card advantage to stay ahead rather than raw card quality. This deck also varies a great dead in terms of card selection and style playing as few as 7 and as many as 15 creatures the texture of this deck will be very hard for your opponent to narrow in on.

3- G/x ramp 25 points

Eldrazi have already shown a stranglehold in Modern and the ability to compete in Legacy but haven’t been as big of a power in Standard well that appears to be changing as Ramp makes its first appearance in these rankings since the first week of Oath of the Gatewatch.  By combining mana acceleration and large powerful spells this deck can be a very tough out for midrange strategies.

2- Rally 26 points
This is the first time in this format that Rally hasn’t been ranked one on this list but I don’t believe anything has changed to make it not the best deck available. However it should be said that it is arguably worse than other “best decks” have been and you should not feel priced into playing it to be competitive and there are decks that have favorable matchups against Rally. But if you are going to play in a large event and feel comfortable playing Rally you absolutely should.

1- Bant/4 color Company 43 points

Paulo Vitor was on the show this week and summarized this deck better than I ever could. “If you put this deck in a random standard format it could be good, but in this one it is just the worse version of rally.” So if your goal is too have fun and be aggressive this is a fine choice but if your only goal is to win you should be playing Rally.
